Context

Memoir Muse is a service design project developed specifically for the Erimtan Archaeology and Arts Museum, aiming to enhance children's engagement and interaction with the museum experience. Through a variety of interactive games, it helps children learn about the objects displayed in the museum in an enjoyable and meaningful way.

The project includes a mobile app and a game brochure, designed to enrich the museum visit for both children and their parents. By addressing the experience in three phases—pre-visit, during-visit, and post-visit—it incorporates elements such as prior information, on-site interaction, and post-visit reinforcement to create a holistic educational journey.

Process

  • Conducted research to understand the museum context and identify key insights about the target user group.
  • Defined game concepts based on research insights, developed detailed UX flows, and crafted educational and engaging narrative scenarios tailored to the museum environment.
  • Designed the visual layout of the printed game brochure and created the UI design for the mobile application.

Museum

This project was developed with Erimtan Archaeology and Arts Museum as the main context, though the system is adaptable to other museums as well. However, I wanted to ground the concept in a real setting and offer a concrete solution. To do so, I visited Erimtan Museum, spoke with the staff who organize children’s workshops, and learned that they primarily showcase six specific artifacts to young visitors.

The 6 ancient artifacts featured in the museum assist families in initiating activities through the riddles in the brochure and learning about each one via the app.

To clarify the content and structure of the app, an information architecture was developed to define its core components.

A flow chart was created and divided into three key parts—booking, gaming, and journaling—outlining the user journey across the pre-visit, during-visit, and post-visit phases. These tools helped establish a clear roadmap for the app and overall experience.

Results

Museum visits were reimagined as rich, engaging experiences where children are encouraged to play, explore, and learn through interactive tools. The project encourages lasting curiosity and builds a positive habit of returning to museums with excitement and interest.
