Guess & Roll is a game where players roll a 6-sided big dice featuring famous scientists. The face-down character is automatically selected, and their profile—highlighting key achievements—appears on an app. Throughout the game, lights on the dice indicate active characters, while eliminated ones gradually turn off, adding a dynamic visual element.

Context

The project aimed to remake a classic board game using Arduino and digital prototyping tools. Maintain the core game mechanics while enhancing the experience with digital elements. Create a physical prototype that incorporates an Arduino board and a mobile app prototype using ProtoPie.

We chose to redesign the Guess Who game to help children learn more about famous scientists. At the same time, we introduced dynamic visual elements to provide meaningful feedback and enrich the learning experience.

Process

  • Conducted research to explore how Arduino and a mobile app could be integrated into the Guess Who game. Identified our target users and selected a theme that would engage them.
  • Defined the game flow to ensure a clear structure and determined necessary components. Designed the UI for the app.
  • Connected the system to Arduino, implemented the necessary interactions, and built the working prototype.

The flowchart was created to visualize the system's inputs and outputs, clearly defining which processes would be handled by the app and which by the Arduino. This structured approach helped in establishing the system and ensuring seamless integration between the physical and digital components.

The block diagram was created to map out the project components and their connections, providing a clear understanding of their relationships and interactions within the system.

Based on our research, five scientists were selected for the game: Albert Einstein, Marie Curie, Nikola Tesla, Johannes Kepler, and Isaac Newton. Once the system's functionality was defined, the focus shifted to visual design to enhance the overall experience.

Results

The project seamlessly blended physical and digital elements, offering an engaging educational experience for children while preserving the core mechanics of the Guess Who game.
